Competitions

At the start of 2023 I decided I wanted to challenge myself by entering some competitions. There are 1000's of competitions out there but they often cost a small fee to enter and my art style wouldn't be suitable for lots of them. Below is a list of the competitions I plan to enter. They are either wildlife focused or open to any subject and style.

Anthology Cover Art

Deadline 30th September 2023

Sketch For Survival

Deadline passed, unsuccessful. This competition is free to enter and has two categories focused on endanged wildlife and environments.

Holly Bush Painting Prize

Deadline passed, was too busy to submit

Marcy, Macy & Maddy

Annual Exhibition of Miniature Art

I really enjoyed painting tiny art last year but was conscious that this competition requires more detailed paintings, I gave it a go with a series of four mini paintings, shown below, but was unsuccessful. The style of most successful painting is quite traditional so I'm thinking of some little detailed hummingbird paintings with a gold leaf background for next year.

The main downside for this competition was that the pieces need to be framed and its almost impossible to find commercial frames that are small enough. I don't normally frame pieces as its expensive, takes up loads of room and may not be what a buyer wants. I do still love my little paintings though and it meant I got to find a lovely local framer at the Frame Emporium.

Swarm
